Bespoke Bridles

RSO Leather bespoke leatherwork is perfect for those looking for bridles that are carefully designed for the shape of your horse’s head. The bridle can be measured, then hand-made to fit perfectly. This ensures that no pressure is put onto the sensitive facial nerves and avoids rubbing. Depending on your horse’s needs, you have a variety of choices for headpieces, browbands and nosebands.

I am an independent bit fitter and carry a small selection of high-quality bits for your horse to try. Neue Schule, Expert Bits, Myler and Sprenger. I also have available to fit and try the full range of Henry James Saddlery bridles and accessories. These can be fitted using individual pieces and sizes to ensure the correct fit for your horse.

All of these items are not only the highest quality, but also comes in a variety of options to suit your needs. I offer fitting appointments with no obligation to buy. For more information, feel free to call or email. I can send you a bridle fitting form and full instructions on how to measure the bridle. A brief description of what to expect during a bit/bridle fitting

There will be a pre-ridden assessment where I will look at the facial/mouth conformation of your horse and discuss any concerns or problems that you may be experiencing, and signs of evasion related to the bridle/bit by asking lots of relevant questions.

I will then ask to see the horse ridden in its normal tack/equipment. This gives the rider a chance to impart as much information and feedback as possible and for me to see how the horse behaves and moves.

We will have a discussion then about any issues and the key points that need to be addressed and agree a realistic change of bit and/or bridle to suit the horse and discipline.

Following any changes made I will then ask to see the horse ridden again.

No horse and rider will be rushed as every horse is different so some may be quicker to respond than others and will be given the appropriate time.

Common Indicators of a Bridle/Bitting issue:

  • Contact evasion or resistance to rider’s aids

  • Tongue out

  • Head tipping

  • Above the bit

  • High head

  • Ears back

  • Eyes part closed, mouth open

  • Eyes closed, head raised
